When you're in a funk

I'm pretty sure we've all been there, that horrible moment where no matter what you do, everything seems to take a wrong turn. Everyone feels it in a different way though, to me it feels as if someone stuffed crumpled tissue in my brain and everything is foggy and unclear. Every decision will often seem irrational and focus was just nonexistent. I've been there, a couple of times and usually it goes away in awhile. There was this one time where the funk followed me for a long time, a very long time and believe me I've tried everything to cure my funk. First, I tried to ignore it like I normally do but it didn't work. Usually I'm pretty good at ignoring things but this is not something you can ignore easily. People told me to get out, have fun, forget about it and just let go but no matter how hard I've tried it just wouldn't leave me. The funk followed me long enough to make me feel desperate. I needed to get rid of it quick! That's when I started following a lot of advices from others which eventually leads to discovering a thing called self care.

My family has always been a believer in things like meditation, yoga, and tai chi whereas I, have not. Those things sounds pretty cliche to me and not to mention, extremely boring. Under normal circumstances I would never thought of doing any of these things that seems a little weird to me because I've only ever seen it in movies (like tai chi, the iron fist and kung fu panda looked cool doing it I must admit) but at this moment I was willing to try anything and so I did. Meditation helped a lot, it relaxes my mind every time something overwhelming occurred. The scented candles and diffusers makes the room smell nice (I'm lighting a candle as I type) and you'd be surprised what a nice-smelling room could do. Journaling was my favorite, it allows you to write about everything you're thinking without judgement and though it may sound a bit silly sometimes it feels nice when you have poured all your thoughts out and you can look at them in those pieces of paper (it helps organize the thoughts in your brain). Maybe you're more of the outgoing type where hanging out with friends, going to a party, or playing sports helps, in that case go ahead! If you do the things you love and love the things you do then what you're looking for would oftentimes find their own way to you.

Keeping up healthy habits like these will do wonders. Though it didn't cure my funk instantly, it really helped me get through it. I used to doubt things like these because they just sound so lame but hey, if you have time why not give it a go. Having an open mind won't do you any harm, and who knows? maybe you'd find that you actually do enjoy these things.
